Summary of a personal blog post (zenn): On the MacBook Pro 13-inch 2016 with the Apple S3X NVMe SSD, lid-close sleep resumed after switching to s2idle and disabling D3cold for the NVMe drive. The writer says Thunderbolt storage must be removed before sleep. The second item is a built-in part of the first. The article does not discuss compatibility as such; it only shows that these devices were used together.
